WALTERS DEFEATS CHATTANOOGA FOR TCCAA/REGION VII CROWN

The Lady Senators of Walters State won the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament this past week as they defeated Chattanooga State 3-1 in the championship match on Saturday.  Both teams now travel to Richard Bland College in Petersburg (VA) to play for a spot in the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Tournament.  Chattanooga State will take on Region X champion Richard Bland at 1 p.m. for the Southeast District representative while Walters will play Region X runnerup Cleveland Community College to be the Southeast B District representative.

In the championship match on Satrurday, the Lady Senators took the first two games of the match by scores of 25-20 and 25-17.  Chattanooga would take the third game by a 25-20 final before Walters would finish the match by winning the gourth game, 25-19. 

Tournament MVP Lauren Mims of the Lady Senators would guide the way with 12 kills to go with 19 digs.  Veda Barton would be next in kills with ten.  Payton Brown would lead the team with 20 digs while Olivia Brown would have 10 digs to with a team 24 assists in the match.  Annah Cate Hyatt would have 13 digs and 15 assists. 

For the Lady Tigers, Emma Haddix and Ava Higgins led their team with 22 and 17 kills.  Haddix was also credited with 25 digs to lead Chattanooga followed by Baileigh Seale with 16 and Megan Crocker with ten.  Seale would finish the match with 46 assists.

In earlier match play in the tournament on Friday, Pellissippi would defeat Cleveland State 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-18) befpre fallin to Walters State in a semifinal 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 25-9).  In the other semifinal, Chattanooga would defeat Roane State by a 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-19) final.
