WALTERS STATE DEFEATS ROANE STATE IN REGION FINAL

The Walters State Lady Senators volleyball squad won the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament this past weekend as they defeated the Roane State Lady Raiders in the championship match by a 3-1 final.  The Lady Senators took the first two games by the scores 25-9 and 25-10.  The Lady Raiders attemtped to come back with a 25-23 win in the third game.  Walters put the match away in the fourth game by a 25-6 final.

Lauren Mims led the Lady Senators with 13 kills followed by Alyssa Campbell and Mattie Davis with 8 kills apiece.  Olivia Brown and Allison Singleton led the team with 18 and 10 assists while tourament MVP Jaci Drinnon led the team wtih 25 digs followed by Singleton with 10.  Alex Sherles, Frida Hoellger, and Emilia Hoppe led the Lady Raiders with 7, 6, and 6 kills.  Solene Roussel led the squad with 24 assists as well as 16 digs.  Hannah Logsdon was the leader with 18 digs.

Both teams advanced with identical 3-0 scores as the Walters eliminated Cleveland by scores of 25-7, 25-8, and 25-13.  Roane advanced by defeating Chattanooga by scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-16.  Campbell and Davis led the Lady Senators with nine kills while Brown and Singleton led with 17 and 12 assists.  Drinnon had 16 digs while Sims had ten in the game.  In Roane's victory, Sherles led with 10 kills followed by Hoppe with seven.  Roussel had 23 assists while Hogsdon led with 11 digs. 

The Lady Senators will now host Cape Fear Community College in the NJCAA Southeast B District Championship on Friday, November 3, at 5p.m. EST.
