MOTLOW, COLUMBIA TO MEET FOR REGION VII CHAMPIONSHIP

Motlow State and Columbia State will meet this Thursday, October 26, for the NJCAA Region VII Championship.  The game will be played at Motlow State with a 3pm CST start time.

Both squads advanced on Monday as they both won their semi final matches by identical 5-0 scores.  Motlow would defeat Dyersburg while Columbia would win over Southwest Tennessee.

Motlow would score at the 8:38 mark in the first half as Camden Prosser would find the back of the net on an assist from Grace Murray.  Alba Embid would score the second goal later in the half on another assist from Murray.  Katie Jones would score an unassisted goal with less than five minutes to play in the half for a 3-0 lead at the break.  Kinley Buena would score the fourth goal on an assist from Ellie Kirk while Bella Bravo would score the final goal on a penalty kick.  A trio of goalies would keep Dyersburg scoreless as the Eagles only had three shots on goal for the game.

The match between Columbia and Southwest Tennessee was a competitive on as the match was scoreless after the first half of play.  Cruz Grinolds would break the tie with a goal at the 56 minute mark on an assist from Kori Harshman.  Grinolds would score agai five minutes later on an assist from Kaylie Mehlenbeck.  Abigale Alexander, Moriah Hutchinson, and Mehlenbeck would each score a goal to round out the scoring.  Tasha Florian, Ansley Alexander, and Savannah Haupt would each be credited with an assist on those goals.  Goalkeeper Camry Chambless would shut the Saluquis out as they only had five shots on goal for the contest.

The winner of the championship will then advance to the Central district Championship which will consist of teams from Regions 7, 11, 16, and 24 with the champion of Region XXIV hosting the district.  The winner of the District will advance to the National Tournament in Wichita (KS) at the Striker Sports Complex from November 12-18.  The tournament will include the eight district champions with four at large bids also available.
