WALTERS, JACKSON BOTH GO 2-0 IN FIRST WEEK OF CONFERENCE PLAY; CLEVELAND'S GORE NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK

With the first week of conference play in the books, both Walters State and Jackson State went 2-0 for the week to set the pace.  Cleveland State also has unblemished record at 1-0.  Four teams sit at 1-1 as several key matchups this week could change the standings.

Walters State began their trek on another Region title by fighting off Chattanooga State on Wednesday 47-42.  Jackson State also won on the first night by a final of 93-55 over Columbia State.  Both teams earned those wins on the road.  Other results from the night had Southwest Tennessee defeating Dyersburg State 79-77 while Roane State handed new coach David Harnish his first conference win, 68-59 over Motlow State.

On Saturday, both Walters and Jackson celebrated home openers as Walters defeated Columbia State 97-62 and Jackson got the best of Roane by a 87-74 final.  Cleveland State was on the road for their opener and came away with an 80-56 triumph over Volunteer State.  Dyersburg evened their record at 1-1 with an 81-75 win over Motlow as did Chattanooga State by defeating Southwest Tennessee 80-69.

Cleveland State's Britnay Gore earned the Player of the Week honors.  She averaged 23 points to go with 14 rebounds in the Lady Cougars two contests on the week.  She would post double doubles in both contests.  She scored 26 points and had 15 rebounds in their win over Volunteer State.
