HEAD COACH EVELYN THOMPSON, LADY COUGARS GIVE BACK

From mid May until mid June, Head Coach Evelyn Thompson and the Lady Cougars women's basketball team were engaged in and out of the community on three seperate occasions in their effort to give back to the community and beyond.

Coach Thompson started by joining six other women associated with Cleveland State as they participated in Habitat for Humanity Women's Build.  Of course, this organization is responsible for the building of homes for families in need of housing assistance.  "It was such a humbling experience to be albe to know that we were a part of building someone's home.  We talk all the time to our student and student-athletes about the importance of service.  It is even more of an impression to lead by example."

During the first week of June, Coach Thompson along with Assistant Coach Jake Wright and several Lady Cougars helped out with McDonald's Day of Change.  The funds raised go to the local Ronald McDonald's homes in the area.  The Ronald McDonald House Charities mission is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health amd weel-being of children and their families.  Coach Thompson has a special place in here heart for the chaity, "It is an organization that is near and dear to my heart. I have been involved for a very long time, and I will continue to make every effort to contribute when possible."  On her team helping, "Our young women do a great job of carrying out a commitment to service and leading the charge.  I am so proud of the way they tackle every service opportunity with open hearts."

Finally, Coach Thompson was a guest speaker at the PlaySMARTT Outreach camp in  Huntsville (AL).  The organization was founded by Dr. David Smartt of Huntsville.  It helps with steps students who want to play at the collegiate level.  She also helped Dr. Smartt with a practice and scrimmage during the day.  "This was an opportunity to talk to a group of young athletes and their parents about the commitment in the classroom and on the court to play at the next level," statd Thompson.
