LADY SENATORS DRAW #15 SEED; WILL PLAY MILES IN 1ST ROUND

The Walters State Lady Senators were able to view the tournament selection show on Monday to learn their seeding for the upcoming Women's Division I National Tournament to be held in Lubbock Texas starting Monday, March 18.  The Lady Senators were awarded the #15 seed which will pair them with Miles out of Montana.  They will play Monday at 2pm CST with the winner advancing to meet the #2 seed Gulf Coast State on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Senators opponent was the champion of Region XIII and head into the tournament with an undefeated record at 33-0.  They averaged 81.3 points a game while surrendering only 51.3 points a contest.  They connect on 43.5% of their shots from the field which includes 36.1% from 3-point range.  They shoot 66.8% from the free throw line.  Although undefeated, they are not ranked in the NJCAA National Poll for Division I.

Walters will go into the tournament with a 28-4 record after winning the Region VII Tournament for the eighth year in a row.  The Lady Senators finished the year ranked #16 in the national poll with three of their four losses coming against teams also in the tournament and all four losses to ranked opponents.  The Lady Senators average 68.7 points a game while surrendering only 50 points on defense.  They are 44.3% from the field and 72.2% from the free throw line.  They are led by double digit scorers Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu (15.8) and Zacharyia Esmon (15.1).
