CHATT STATE BLANKS SOUTHERN IDAHO AT NATIONALS

The Chattanooga State Lady Tigers took their #8 seed and defeated #9 seed Southern Idaho in the first round of the NJCAA Division I Softball Championship in Yuma (AZ) on Tuesday afternoon.  They rode Ashlyn Holland's hot bat and solid pitching from Samantha Ryan to advance with a 5-0 victory.

Holland put the Lady tigers up to stay when whe led of the bottom of the second with an opposite field home run.  They would add to their total in the fifth when Reagan Hartley laced a single up the middle to score pinch runner Mia Apple with their second run.  They would score three runs in the sixth when Holland would again lead off with a solo home run over the left field fence, and then Marquila Howell would double down the right field line to score the Gainer twins, Jade & Amber.

That was plenty of run support for Ryan as she went seven innings, surrendering only three hits and two walks.  She would finish with seven strikeouts with only two runners to get into scoring position; each with two outs.

Chattanooga had two hits with Holland supllying the two home runs.  Six players each had one hit.
