WALTERS STATE COMES BACK IN SECOND HALF TO DEFEAT CHATT STATE; JACOBS NAMED MVP

The Senators of Walters State overcame a double digit deficit at halftime to prevail over the Chattanooga State Tigers, 83-79, in the 2024 TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII championship which was held this week at Motlow State in Tullahoma.  With the win, Walters will now advance to the NJCAA Division I Basketball Championship to be held at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson (KS) starting on March 24 thru the 30th.  

Chattanooga State came out in the first half on a mission as they took the lead and never looked back as they were up 51-36 going into the break.  The Senators slowly chipped away at the dificit until tying the contest late at 70 on a threee pointer by Greg Moore.  The teams would go back and forth until Walters was able to make key shots down the stretch in the final minute.  

Terrance "JR" Jacobs woule earn MVP honors as he left his quad in scoring with 20 points with a team high five assists and four steals.  Four other Senators joined him with double figures as Jair Horton had 14 points, Ramondo Battle with 13 points and a team high seven rebounds.  Jamar Livingston and Moore each finished with 12 poits apiece.

Ogbanno Agbo led Chattanooga with 20 points followed by Lucas Brown, Jr. with 15 points.  James Williams finished with 13 points and Nicholas Jones-Hill had 12 points in the game.  Williams also lead the team with ten rebounds and nine assists.

Walters will learn their first round opponent late this week when the NJCAA airs the Selection Show on njcaa.com.

The Senators now stand at 28-2 on the season with a ranking of 21st in the latest NJCAA poll.
