FOUR TCCAA ALUMNI SELECTED IN MLB DRAFT

In the recent MLB Draft for 2023, the TCCAA saw four alumni selected in the draft.  Three Walters State Senators and one Cleveland State Cougar heard their names called during the three day event.  

Cam Fisher, Andrew Lindsey, and Zach Joyce from Walters State were slected while Bryce Jenkins was selected from Cleveland State.  Of the four, three are right handed pitchers while Fisher was an oufielder.  All three pitchers were on the University of Tennessee's College World Series team this past season.

Fisher was chosen by the Houston Astros in the 4th round of the draft.  He transferred from Walters to Charlotte this past season where he hit .348.  He appeared in 63 games where he had 78 hits which included 14 doubles and 30 home runs.  He scored 72 runs and had 66 RBIs.  He drew 73 walks and struck out 63 times in 224 at bats.

Lindsey was chosen by the Miami Marlins in the 5th round.  This past season as a Volunteer, he started nine games out of 21 appearances.  He had a 2.90 ERA.  He surrendered 60 hits and an opposing batting average of .225.  He had 73 strikeouts against 19 walks.

Joyce was selected in the `4th round by the LA Angels.  He joins his brother Ben who was drafted by the Angels in last year's draft.  Zach had an ERA of 4.35 in 10.1 innings pitched.  He allowed an opposing batting average of .231, surrendering nine hits.  He had 17 strikeouts against two walks in his 13 appearances.

Jenkins was drafted by the New York Mets in the 17th round.  As a Volunteer, he made 18 appearances with 16.1 innings pitched.  He had an ERA of 5.51 with an opposing batting average of .213.  He struck out 24 batters while giving up 7 walks while surrendering 13 hits.
