ROANE STATE WOMEN, WALTERS STATE MEN WIN REGION VII CROSS COUNTRY MEET

The Roane State women's cross country team and the Walters State men's team won their respective races in the NJCAA Region VII cross country meet on Friday at the Walters State course.  All runners now advance to the NJCAA Division II Men and Women's Cross Country Championships to be held at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama on November 11 with the Half Marathon to be run on November 14.


The Roane State women pulled of a two point victory over Walters in a 27-29 final.  Walters' Julianne Dodson was the women's medalist with a time in the 5K of 21:59.2, winning the event by almost three minutes as Roane's Christen Chaston finished with a time of 24:47.0.  Walters' Chloe Williford was third with a time of 25:12.8 and Roane's Kennedi Hinds was fourth as she finished with a time of 25:51.7.  After Walters Emma Hamilton finished with a time of 25:57.9 for fifth, Roane runners would finish 6th through eight to secure the team with a victory as Hadley Walls (26:15.3), Averey Bell (26:21.9), and Elizabeth Benny (26:45.2) finished respectively.  Walters' Lani Helton ( 29:33.6) and Lexi Shepard (35:51.3) rounded out the scoring and runners for the Lady Senators.  Roane's Carlee Foster didn't figure in the team sscoring, but recorde a time of 32:56.1.

The Walters men won their 8K event with a team socre of 15.  Roane State would not have a team score as they didn't have a full team to compete in team competition.  Walters' Brando Resendiz would finish as the medalist in the race with a time of 30;38.9, oudistancing the next closest runner by five minutes.  That would be his teammates Wade Walters and Juan Guillen who finished second and thirs with times of 35:42.6 and 35:53.6.  Roane would have runners finish fourth and fifth in Seth Shrout (37:46.3) and Isaac Hickey (38:28.1).  Walters had the sixth and seventh place runners in Jessie Ramos (38:48.4) and Ignacio Vargas Huipe (38:52.4).  Noah Cox of roane State finished 8th with a time of 39:40.9.  Walters' Benjamin Eigenmann and Roane's Danny Meyer finnished out the runners finishing the race with times of 41:19.7 and 56:08.7.
