WALTERS STATE SWEEPS CROSS COUNTRY REGION TITLES

The cross country teams from Walters State swept the NJCAA Region VII titles on Friday afternoon at the country cross course at Maryville College.  The men had four of the top five finishers in earning the cham[pionship while the women had three of the top five finishers for their triumph.

The 2022 NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championships are to be held November 12 at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee (FL).  The women's race will start at 11:45 am with the men's race to start at 12:45 pm.  The women will compete in a 6k while the men will run an 8k for their championship.

Brando Resendiz of Walters State took the individual gold medal in the race as he finished in 28:58 which was over minute faster than teammate Alexander LeBlanc (31:38) who finished in second.  Roane State's Matthew Cannon finished third with a time of 31:59.  Walters State's Sam Hall (32:14) and Jessie Ramos (35:37) finished fourth and fifth.  Noah Cox of Roane State was next with a time of 36:18.  Luca Greineder (36:40) and Carl Andes (38:23) finished in seventh and eighth place.  Roane State's Jeremy Woody finished ninth with a time of 41:31.

Julianne Dodson of Walters was the medalist in the women's championship with a time of 20:44.  Her teammate, Amelaia Weeks was second with a time of 22:27.  Roane State's Ivy Tilson (22:43) and Christen Chaston (23:48) foinished third and fifth in the race with Walters' Emma Hamilton (22:48) finishing fourth.   Molly and Emily Wright of Walters finished sixth and seventh with times of 23:55 and 26:56. 

All runners who completed the course are eligible to compete at the national tournament with Walters State also able to compete for the team championship.
